Parental Control Feature

Amazon came up with a feature named parental control which enables a kid’s desire to have freedom over their content options. Parents can set up multiple child profiles for different ages.

When you first start the device, you need to sign in to your Amazon account. If you don’t have an account you need to create one. You don’t need to have an amazon prime or amazon prime membership to use this tablet. After signing in you can activate the amazon kids plus membership.

Create a parental pin and then create a profile for your child. After completing you can access your child’s profile either on the lock screen or at the notification shade.

If you want to go back to your regular profile/adult profile, you have to go to the Profiles at the notification shade. Enter the pin you created and you’re back to the regular fire. You can now use this as a regular tablet.

In the amazon kids app, you can change any of the parental controls. In Settings, in your child’s profile, you can set daily goals and time limits. If you want to set a bedtime so that your child can’t use this tablet late at night, you can go to the Settings and set the bedtime for them so that they won’t be able to use that tablet in those hours of the day.

You can also set a total screen time limit for one day. Once they reach those limiting times, they won’t be able to use a tablet anymore unless you enter your parental pin.

There is also an educational goal-setting feature available where you can enter the amount of time you want your child to spend on educational activities like reading or watching educational videos. It will keep track of all those goals. You can even select the Learn First option which will block off all the other applications until your child meets those educational goals.

There is also an age filter setting where you can put the age range of your child so they can only see content suitable for their age group. You can also add content like apps, videos games, and more to your child’s profile and give them access to it. You can also restrict your child’s web browser and limit certain content.

Amazon kids plus has a lot of content available like games, books, videos, tv shows. Your child even has the ability to make audio or video calls using the tablet to approve contacts only.

With this parental control feature, you can make sure what your kids doing on their tablets. And it keeps them safe from spoiling on the internet at early ages.

Amazon Kids Plus Feature

Amazon Kids Plus

It also comes with one year Amazon Kids Plus feature which is loaded with kids-appropriate content. over 20,000 apps, games, videos, books, and educational content inside this application. Normally one-year subscription for this application costs $99 for a non-prime member and $69 a year for Prime members.

Price

Amazon sells this amazing tablet for $150 with ad support. Amazon will show ad on the lock screen. There is an ad-free version too which will cost $15 more, that is $165.

If you want to pay an extra $35, you will get a two-year worry-free warranty and a one-year Amazon Kids Plus service. If you were going to buy these things separately, you would have to pay more. It is definitely a win-win for you to buy this tablet including all of these, which will cost only $200.

Performance

As it is a kids version tablet, Amazon did not give much priority to performance. Although, it has 2 GHz octa-core Mediatek MT8183 Helio P60T processor, 2 GB of Ram, and 32 GB of Internal Storage. You can also expand the storage with a Micro SD card. With these specifications, switching between app to app and book to book is pretty quick. It is not the fastest one in the market, but for your child, the performance is enough with minimal lag.

With the Geekbench-3 benchmark tool, this Fire Tab scored with single-core 1612 and with multi-core 5094.

Durable Design with Removable Bumper Case

Design variant

It has this foam-like proof case that comes with the intergalactic color case which has a kind of a space-themed picture on the back. There are different variant cases available in the market like purple doodle case, black case, and sky-blue case. The tablet itself is black and there is no variance.

The case has a built-in kickstand especially for children and the kickstand on this slim kids pro case feels a lot sturdier and easier to open up than the previous fire kids tablet cases. It has the amazon logo on the back and this case is slimmer than the regular fire kids edition tablet cases.

Network

It works on dual-band networks. It is also compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac networks.

Display

Display

It comes with a 10.1-inch and 1920×1200 resolution display. The display is bright enough to view things from a distance. The animations are pretty clear and immersive within this budget.

Camera

It has only a 2MP front camera and a 2MP rear camera. In 2021, it is certainly very poor while taking pictures. Although it has some software features to customize your photos.

Video records in 720p, but still video quality is very poor.

Audio

This tablet has two speakers that enhance your experiences in witnessing shows, movies, and music from a distance. Although audio sometimes get muffled at loud volume, still the audio quality is pretty good within this budget. It has also 3.5mm headphone jack. It has a slot when the tablet is kept inside the case so that users can listen to music without any abruption.

Battery

It has a long-lasting battery which allows it up to 12 hours of use. With extremely heavy use like watching shows, listening to music, reading, web searching, it can be used up to 10 hours of consistent use. With normal use, it can last up to three days. And it takes 4 hours to fully charge.

Software

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition uses FireOS, which is an Amazon-centric version of Android. If you are used to regular AndoirdOS, then you will find it somewhat difficult to navigate at first. But it is not that confusing at all. It does not have biometric features like face recognition or a fingerprint sensor. You have to use a passcode to secure the device.

It also has Alexa, so you can navigate the tablet’s feature via voice control.

The real stars of the show are FreeTime and the parental control dashboard. For a young child, there’s a ton of content, and you can control everything your child consumes.

Warranty

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Kids edition comes with a two-year worry-free warranty. If your kid somehow damages this tablet, you can return it to amazon and can get a replacement. So, prepare your Mjöllnir.

Difference between Amazon HD 10 Kids Edition Regular and Pro version

They will both cost you $200 and you are also getting the same tablet. But the main difference is one is made for younger children and another is made for older children. Regular Fire Kid tablet is for the ages between three to seven and the pro version is for the kids between six to twelve years. Contents and UI are different in these two versions.

But in our testing, with the pro version, you can go to Settings and change the age limits, so that can you get the contents in the Amazon Kids Plus for your younger children too. So, you don’t have to worry about buying which one. Just go for the pro versions.

Although the pro version comes with a slimmer case and it’s nice-looking too. I don’t know much about kids’ preferences. Maybe older kids prefer slimmer cases.

Pro version also has an app store inside the user interface where your kids can browse apps and games and they can request approval to download those applications or purchase a game from their parents.

Finally, the last thing we noticed is that the browser of the pro version is just a little bit more open. It still has filters to protect your child and you as a parent can add more restrictions. But instead of coming with just a handful of sites to go to, as the other kid’s edition tablets have, this one gives you a little bit more freedom. It gives a child a little bit more freedom to search websites that are still appropriate for them but they’re not just restricted to.

Final Words

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition is a little too expensive. But with the two-year worry-free warranty, you can easily return it to Amazon and can get a replacement if your kid breaks or damage this tablet. That means you don’t have to spend again in two years. And you have to admit it, kids break things a lot. So, it is not safe to give your kid a normal low-budget tablet.

If you are planning to buy this for your older kid, it is definitely a great choice because it is going to help them with school work like educational stuff.

Keep in mind before buying that you can’t use google applications in it like YouTube or YouTube Kids, as Amazon wants you to use Amazon Play Store. But don’t worry, you can get plenty of kids friendly apps and games in Amazon Play Store too.

With the parental control built-in feature, you can monitor all the activities with your child involved. It keeps them safe from the things on the internet.

Finally, this tablet is great and we definitely recommend it if you are planning to buy a tablet for your child.
